They are also pretty light - my house floorplan essentially forces a corner, above-fireplace TV mount - so I have both my TV and my L-C-R speakers mounted on a fully articulated Omnimount beast. Visually, they nicely complement a thin panel - they are tall enough to look good even next to a 78" screen. They come with wall mounts, stands, and hardware. The speakers are packed well - I was initially concerned because the boxes were pretty beaten up, but the speakers, stands, and hardware were absolutely fine. I'm so impressed, I'm getting some Motion FX surround speakers to replace my Def Tech surrounds. We watched a few movies and were surprised how much more acoustic detail was present compared to the XTR-40s. While none of the slim speakers go too far down in the bass range, these bring a nice tight punchiness to the sub's bass notes. The highs are warmer and less brash than the Def Techs. Driven by an Onkyo TX-NR838, and paired with a Def Tech Supercube II, I found that the SLM-XLs are incredibly well balanced. I wanted to stay low-profile, so after waffling between the XTR-60s and the MartinLogan SLM-XLs, I decided that wanted to go the MartinLogan route. The SLM-XL are audiophile quality speakers and as long as they are paired with a quality non-ported subwoofer you will have an amazing system that can hang on your wall next to your flat screen TV and amaze anyone who comes over. My wife and kids keep commenting that it's like being at the movies when the floor shakes and ships are heard flying past our heads in movies like Guardians of the Galaxy 2 which we just watched. The floor rumbles, voices are crystal clear, the sound can be loud and it isn't fatiguing to the ears (thanks to the ribbon tweeters). And movies are amazing with our 5.1 setup. Music now sounds crystal clear throughout the entire frequency range. The difference was night and day from my old ported sub. I decided to try the MartinLogan Dynamo 1000 which is there 12 in subwoofer. MartinLogan's subwoofers aren't ported and non-ported subs tend to be tighter/cleaner sounding. The one thing I didn't like was that on music, things seemed a little muddy sounding around the frequencies where the SLM-XL crossed over to the sub. The SLM-XL's sounded really good for music and great on movies.

I bought a Marantz SR6011 receiver and after using it's speaker calibration software I must say I was impressed. When I first got these, I used an older Polk ported subwoofer with 2 10" drivers. My living room has 10ft ceilings in an open floorplan layout so the living room, dining room and kitchen are essentially one huge room.
My main worries with buying these without having a chance to listen to them is that they would not provide enough power in the mid range and how they would blend with a subwoofer in the low mid range. Ribbon tweeters provide remarkable clarity and aren't harsh like many tweeters. I'm an audio engineer and the main reason I gave these a shot is because I use Adam monitor speakers in my home recording/mixing studio which also use a ribbon tweeter. I bought 3 of these for Left, Center and Right channel of a 5.1 surround setup for my living room (got MartinLogan IC for the 2 surround speakers).
